Sustainable food systems (SFS). A sustainable food system is one that delivers food security and nutrition for all in such a way that the economic, social, and environmental bases to generate food security and nutrition for future generation is not compromised. This means that it is profitable throughout, ensuring economic sustainability, it has broad-based benefits for society, securing social sustainability, and that it has a positive or neutral impact on the natural resource environment, safeguarding the sustainability of the environment. (Definition from Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations website).

Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted in 2015 by the United Nations as a global reaction to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy prosperity and peace. The SDGs are 17 in total and each of them has repercussions in the outcomes of others. They recognize that to achieve the expected balance worldwide, sustainability must be embraced with its three pillars, social, economic, and environmental.
